Expired Domains – How They Can Make Money?
A lot of people are talking about expired domains nowadays and may be you are interested about it. Lets talk about expired or dropped domain today…
A domain has a lifetime as you have already know. Actually, its the lifetime during which the domain is alive or reachable. When you register a domain for 1 or more years, it remains active until the expire date and if you don’t renew it, it is expired. This is the general story or what you can guess. BUT, there are more serious stuffs around it.
Expired domains or deleted domains or dropped domains are actually quite similar status of a domain with a little difference. I won’t go to that part in this article and your job is to search for these terms to learn more.
Why People Are After Expired/Dropped/Deleted Domains?
One of the major factor for websites is TRAFFIC and this is the point where everyone is heading to. Actually…
Traffic = Revenue << quite a simple equation just like 2+2=4
Few more important factors for webmasters are Page Rank, Link Popularity, Backlinks etc.
Most short word or 4-5 character domain names are already taken and its very hard to find a suitable, short, pronounceable domain name nowadays. So how to solve this problem? Here comes expired domains. You are ready to launch your next website but found that your favorite domain is already taken and you have to choose some stupid long name for it which is quite unhealthy (LOLZ). But, the domain you are looking for may be in pending deletion state and it will be available for you within next few weeks! Isn’t that a great news? I hope so.
Some other features are, some webmaster had a very beautiful website with lots of backlinks and traffic. Also may be with page rank 3 or 4. But he decided not to continue his site! Now he will not renew the domain in the next expiration date. What will happen to the domain? It will be remained unclaimed with no owner, ready to register again. Now when its available, you took the right step and registered it, then started a new site. What will happen? Some of the old traffic will still be visiting your site and also the backlinks will be alive there as long as those sites are not notified. If the backlinks are of good quality and the keep intact till the next Google PR update, you are going to get a PR boost without any hard work.
So this is the major factor why people are searching for expired domains or dropped domains. Actually we can summarize the use of expired domains as,
1. You can start a new site with ready traffic and backlinks
2. You can start your domain portfolio and list them for selling in high price (depending on quality)
3. You can start redirecting traffic to your other sites from expired domains
